Biography
DUAL
DUAL is a Houston-based visual artist whose work explores the tension between street art and fine art, anonymity and recognition, and the built environment and the natural world. Working under a pseudonym, DUAL allows viewers to develop their own interpretations of his work, embracing the idea that meaning can shift depending on where and how the work is encountered. A fixture in Houston’s creative landscape since 2005, DUAL’s early obsession with “making marks” began on the streets before evolving into a disciplined studio practice.
After earning a BFA in Painting from the University of Houston, he developed a signature visual language rooted inhard-edge abstraction, vibrant color, and complex layering. His work often merges geometric structures with botanical forms, creating optical depth and movement that pushes beyond the physical boundaries of the canvas. DUAL’s practice spans large-scale murals, paintings, sculptural works, and intricate tape-based compositions derived from the masking process used in his painting technique. His work can be found in public spaces and galleries from Houston to Los Angeles.
Through partnerships with organizations such as Houston Arts Alliance,Harris Health, and Harris County Precincts 2 and 4, DUAL has contributed to the civic landscape through his ongoing commitment to “City Beautification.” His work has been exhibited by the Station Museum of Contemporary Art, Foltz Fine Art, Reeves Art + Design, MASH Gallery in Los Angeles, and Meow Wolf Houston, and he has collaborated with brands including the LeBron James Family Foundation, Sprite, The Rice Box, Popston, and Coral Sword.
